Saw Palmetto

It is a small, palm like plant. The saw palmetto extract comes from berries of small palm trees and the extracts comprises of different fatty acids and sterols. It is used to treat genital, urinary tract and reproductive system problems. It is used for its benefits for the urinary tracts.

It is an aphrodisiac for men and women, and it is also anabolic and helps build muscle tissue. Saw palmetto is made up of fatty acids- it contains a variety of fatty acids including lauric acid, oleic acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid, phytosterols and polysaccharides.

Its key use is in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is enlargement of the prostate gland, and can block the urethera and require surgery. It inhibits the action of testosterone on the prostate, which causes the enlargement of the prostate which interferes with the urinary flow. Saw palmetto herb improves urinary flow, and reduces the frequency and urgency of urination in men with BPH. It is used to treat bladder inflammation, chronic bronchitis. The fatty acids in saw palmetto inhibits testosterone effect on the prostate. It prevents testosterone from converting into dihydrotestosterone( DHT), which causes prostate cells to multiply and also leads to male balding. It prevents the binding of DHT to androgen receptors, thus plays a key role in helping prevent and prostate enlargement and also hair loss.

The recommended dosage is at least 160 mg per day usually in the ranges of 160 to 320 mg per day is sufficient.
